Hopscotch 2011

September is an exciting month in Halifax – the mass return of students means only one thing: our city is going to be on wheels for the entire month…and then some. Of the many things there are to look forward to, Hopscotch 2011 is high on the list. A celebration that honours urban and hip-hop culture, Hopscotch is Atlantic Canada’s most attended hip-hop festival and is essentially a celebration of all things hip-hop in the Atlantic region. This festival boasts everything from urban art, to music and dance, and it runs for four days (BAM!).

Hopscotch 2011 boasts an impressive hop-hop roster that includes The Beatnuts, DJ IV, J-Bru, GhettoSocks, Three Sheet, Quake, Concrete Roots, Eastern Bloc and Sectr. The festival’s emphasis on urban art encourages Canadian youth to focus their energy on creativity and productivity – a mission that these two bloggers do not mind getting behind. Check out the schedule for Hopscotch 2011 here.

For more information on all of the happenings for the long weekend, we’ve got your best bets.

Friday
The end of summer means that Shakespeare by the Sea is wrapping up yet another hysterical season. Venture over to Point Pleasant Park to see Measure for Measure and support a Halifax institution.

Saturday

There’s live comedy taking place over at Yuk Yuks, with Eddie Della headlining.  Don’t forget that there’s also HUFF concerts, too!

Sunday
It’s the last long weekend of the summer – don’t pretend you’re going to be hanging out doing nothing on a Sunday night. If we were you, we’d be heading down to see Carey Beck at the Old Triangle (after spending the day at the HIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH Junior World Championships, of course).

Enjoy the long weekend,
